Benefits of Flossing

A recent study by The New York University College of Dentistry concluded that flossing can significantly reduce periodontal disease and cavity-causing bacteria. Based on a recent study of twins, the research provides new data about the importance of a flossing regimen in addition to daily brushing of the surfaces of the teeth and tongue.
The twin who flossed had a significant improvement in gingival bleeding compared to twin who did not. Their study concluded that "In a well-matched twin cohort, tooth and tongue brushing with flossing significantly improved oral hygiene and decreased the number of cavity-causing bacteria and the risk of gingivitis."
