Pre-Operative Instructions

While the thought of any surgery can be a little frightening, our patients usually find it to be a comfortable, pleasant and painless experience. Please let us know if there is anything that we can do to accommodate you.

1. Inform our office of ANY change in your health.

2. You must have a light meal prior to surgery in order to feel your best.

3. Do not smoke or ingest alcoholic beverages for at least 8 hours prior to surgery.

4. Smoking must be avoided 24 hours before and 7 days after surgery.

5.  If you take routine oral medications, please check with our office prior to your surgical date for instructions.  If you take aspirin or other blood thinners, our office will need to contact your primary care physician to be advised whether or not to discontinue the medication.

6. NEVER DISCONTINUE YOUR MEDICATION UNLESS ORDERED BY YOUR PHYSICIAN.

7. Please brush your teeth prior to your appointment. This will help reduce the amount of bacteria in your mouth and lower your chance of an infection.

8. Wear loose fitting and comfortable clothing if possible. A T-shirt, sweat pants and gym shoes are always a good choice. Please wear flat soled shoes with ankle support like sneakers instead of high heels.

9. If you  are prescribed  a  pre-op  sedative  medication  (Halcion,  Valium ,  etc.),  take  it one  hour prior  to surgery,  or  otherwise directed. After taking sedatives, you are not to undertake any business/employment, drive, make any decisions, sign any important papers, operate machines, etc. You must bring a responsible adult who can bring you to the office and take you home.

Take care of financial arrangements, ask questions and use the bathroom before surgery. You will be too sleepy to remember these things afterward.  Call if you have any questions concerning these instructions or your scheduled appointment.

10. If you are feeling under the weather such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office.

11. If you think you might be pregnant, please inform our office before your appointment.

<Antibiotics>

Please alert the office to any allergies or adverse reaction that you might have to antibiotics or any other medication.  You will be prescribed an antibiotic as needed.

If an antibiotic is prescribed, take it as directed. It is advisable not to take these medications on an empty stomach, as nausea may result. For women taking birth control pills, be advised  that antibiotics  may interfere with the  effectiveness of your birth control pills,  an alternative birth control method  should be  considered.

*** TAKE YOUR ANTIBIOTICS 1 HOUR PRIOR TO YOUR APPOINTMENT AS PRESCRIBED
